South American Countries including Peru, Colombia, Bolivia, and Ecuador have a long history and high standard for gold.  The Inca were very fond of gold.  They used it for jewelry as well as for decorating their temples and palaces.  It is said that when Emperor Atahualpa was captured by the Spanish he offered them a room full of Gold and two rooms of silver for his release.
