The Austria Vienna Philharmonic is a bullion coin produced by the Austrian Mint. The coin was named for the Vienna Philharmonic orchestra which was the inspiration for the design of coin. The front side of the coin has Musikverein’s Golden Hall Pipe Organ. The reverse has the orchestra instruments including a violin, Vienna horn, bassoon, and harp. The coin comes in gold, silver, and platinum. The gold coin was first minted in 1989.
The gold Philharmonic is 99.99% gold or 24 karat gold. It has a diameter of 37 mm, a thickness of 2 mm. From 1989 to 2001 the coin has a monetary value of 2000 Shilling. Beginning in 2002 it was changed to a monetary value of 100 Euro. The weight of the coin is 31.103 grams or 1 troy ounce. This is the most common size. The coin also comes in ½ ounce, ¼ ounce, 1/10 ounce and 1/25 ounce. The ½ ounce coin has a face value of 50 euro and has been minted since 1994. The ¼ ounce coin has a face value of 25 Euro and has been minted since the first year, 1989. The 1/10 ounce coin has been minted since 1991 and has a face value of 10 Euro. Finally, the 1/25 ounce was first made in 2014 for the 25th Anniversary. It has a 4 Euro denomination and is now minted yearly. The Austrian Mint has also made a 1000 ounce version and 20 ounce version of these coins for the 15th and 20th anniversary, respectively.
