Silver Rounds

Silver rounds are 99.9% fine silver medallions that are round in shape.  Thus the name, rounds. These silver bullion pieces are not coins. Moreover, they are made by private mints, usually within the United States of America and they are not legal tender.  The most common size of the silver rounds are 1 troy ounce. However, they also come in 2 ounce, 5 ounce, troy pound, ½ ounce, ¼ oz, or 1/10 oz. The 1 oz silver rounds are generally packaged in a tubes of 20 rounds.

The most common design of the silver round is the Buffalo design, with an American Indian on the front side and a buffalo on the back side.  Other designs include the Morgan dollar design, Walking Liberty design, Prospector Design, Eagle design, or Mercury Dime design. In addition, some popular private mints that we see often are Sunshine Mint, A-mark, Johnson Matthey, Asahi, Engelhard, APMEX, RMC, OPM, Silver shield, or Golden State Mint.  Rounds may also be made to commemorate an event, for example, the moon landing, bicentennial of the United States or presidents. In addition, silver medallions are made for Christmas, graduations, Easter, and birthdays. The rounds may not be stamped with the manufacturer, but they will always say “.999 Fine Silver.”  They are usually also marked with the weight of the round.

Below we have pictured some examples of silver rounds that we have seen in our business.
